Happy Veterans Day! I’m grateful for those of you who have put it all on the line to keep us safe. I hope you’re able to take the day off and spend time doing something you love. Partly because of the holiday and also because Facebook failed to provide timely political ad transparency data this week, we’re skipping FWIW today. We’ll be back to regular programming with full charts, data, and hot takes next Friday.

In the meantime, here are a few reads for you to check out over the long weekend:

The Message Box
What the 2023 Elections Tell Us About 2024
This past Sunday, The New York Times published a poll that triggered widespread concern within the Democratic Party about President Biden’s chances for re-election. According to that survey, voters are ready to return Donald Trump to the White House with at least 303 electoral votes – despite his criminal attempts to overtur…

Ryan Broderick
on the state of tech and social platforms:

Garbage Day
Is the web actually evaporating?
Welcome To The Vapor Web Buried down in a recent CNN piece about how the Biden administration is struggling with the complex generational politics of the current conflict in Israel and Palestine is an interesting tidbit about TikTok: “[The White House is] warily monitoring developments like how the Chinese government-controlled TikTok algorithm just happ…

Mark Jacob
on media and democracy:

Stop the Presses
It’s false ‘fairness’ to help right-wing politicians lie.
The Washington Post published an important story over the weekend about how Donald Trump is plotting to wield dictatorial power if he gets back in the White House. “Trump and allies plot revenge, Justice Department control in a second term,” read the headline…
