FWIW, here’s how much money battleground Gubernatorial campaigns spent last week on Meta ads (Facebook + Instagram) and Google ads (Google + YouTube) in several key states.

Ad of the week: FAKE LAKE

In one of the most perplexing ads of the cycle so far, a group called American Focus PAC tried to tap into the latest trans panic wave by paying a drag queen to say that Kari Lake is secretly a liberal who loves drag. It’s an ad you’ll just have to see for yourself:

I don’t really know what to do with this ad: So she’s a drag queen paid by Republicans to attack @KariLake for being too liberal and secretly liking drag queens? 2022 is weird.

Quick facts:

  • The top spending gubernatorial candidate on digital ads last week was Ron DeSantis, who spent $249,519.

  • The state with the most expensive gubernatorial race online last week was Florida, where candidates spent a combined $307,666 on Meta + Google ads.

  • Democratic candidates in competitive races spent $221,753 on Meta + Google ads last week, while Republican candidates spent $239,488.
